Lucille Rogers

Lucille Rogers was born in Buffalo, New York on August 7, 1919. She passed away on Good Friday, March 30, 2018 at her home in Columbus, OH, surrounded by her family. She was 98 years old. At two months old, her loving parents, the late Christopher and Mamie Waller, adopted Lucille. She spent her childhood in Gretna, Virginia and in Carlisle, WV where she finished high school at DuBois High School. On December 26, 1936, she married Levi Rogers of South Boston, VA. They gave birth to twelve children. Lucille worked in several positions before retiring from Nationwide Insurance Company in Columbus, Ohio. Throughout her life, she was a devout Christian and an active member of various churches. Her final church home was at Smyrna Baptist Church where she worshiped for more than ten years and was designated “Mother of the Church”. Lucille’s beloved husband, Levi, preceded her in death in February 1986. Two sons, Warren and Ronald, and one infant daughter Brenda, also pre-deceased her. She is survived by four sons: James (Nancy), John, Christopher, and Gregory (Laura), three adopted sons: Sterling Hart, Bill Feehan and Ricky Kelso; five daughters: Mary Smith, Joyce Rogers, Delores Lawson, Iris Scott, and Teresa Thomas, and an adopted daughter, Josephine Chester. She has nineteen grandchildren: James (Betty), Sebrena, Dana, (Bernie), Walter, Gregory T., Keith, Alan, Sr. (deceased); Raquel, Dionne, Jon, DeMarko (Samantha), Chris, Brandy (Brian), Eric, Michael, Brian (Amina), Edward, Gregory R., and Emily; 23 great-grandchildren; and 12 fifth- generation great-great-grandchildren.
