In July 1923 Mother Dollene Scott was born in Rio Grande Ohio to Marion and Sarah Payne, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Scott, brother John Earl Payne, sister Bette Payne, and brother Charles Payne. Surviving is daughter Judith Malcom, son John Scott (Janet) and sister-in-law Joyce Payne and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She enjoyed country life. Her father, looking for work, moved the family to a little hamlet called Blackfork, Ohio, where she joined the Union Baptist Church and at the age of eleven was baptized in a little creek near the church. After she was graduated from high school she married and two children were born to this union. Looking for employment they moved to the City of Columbus, Ohio, where she joined the Oakley Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Jacob Ashburn, Jr. Through the years she held several positions in the church. Active in several missionary conventions. She retired from the federal government after working thirty years.
Until she recently became ill at the age of 101, she attended church every Sunday. Ms Dollywood was faithful — had staying power — was wise in foresight and always completed her appointed task. Her response to God's will showed in her individual life. She left us with a sense of well-being, trust and love.
A flower that will never fade.
