Lynn Robert Gwynn was born April 14, 1949 to Jeanne Chavous-Gwynn and Judge Lawrence McKinley Gwynn in Columbus, Ohio. Lynn received his formal education in the Columbus public school system and graduated from North High School, where he was an All-City and All-State running back on the football team. In 1967, he became the second African-American to be hired as apprentice for the Electrical Workers Union Local 638, as the result of a cooperative program with the Columbus Urban League. That same year, he married Leilani M. Brown. He eventually owned and operated the Diamond Electric Company before retiring in 1987. Through the years, Lynn pursued several real estate ventures, volunteered at the local Community Festival (ComFest), and played guitar and piano for several local bands during the 1970's. Lynn departed this life on Friday, August 3, 2012 at his Columbus residence. He was preceded in death by both his parents, uncle Jarret Chavous, aunts Janice and Barbara Chavous, and several other relatives. Left to cherish memories of Lynn are his son Pepe Lawrence Gwynn; daughters Sonja Gwynn-Rhynehardt (Anthony Rhynehardt) and Nikki Gwynn, all of Columbus, Ohio; brother Garth (Kathy) Gwynn of Houston, Texas; aunts, Leslie Chavous-Hunter of Chicago, Illinois, Dorthy Johnson, and Mildred Chavous; uncle Quintin (Elvira) Chavous of Boston, Massachusetts; cousins, Eden Cowans, Tony and Dominic Slade, Mark Jarret Chavous, Heath Hunter, Donna Johnson, Dale Gwynn, Charlsia Gwynn, Phil Gwynn, Mark Chavous, Sidney (Dan) Fields, and Jerri Slade, Janice Slade, and Diane (Artavia) Wilborn; several grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
