Madge Marshall

June 18, 1934 — April 14, 2023

Madge Ellen Evans Marshall was born in Shelby, Mississippi, on Monday, June 18, 1934, to Agnes Pearl Evans and Alexander Wesley Evans. She and her older brother were raised in a Christian home, finished high school, and attended college. Madge graduated in 1956, from Jackson State University and furthered her education at Indiana University. She later transferred to University of Minnesota and The Ohio State University to pursue her Master’s degree.

On March 5, 1957, she and Collins A. Marshall were joined in holy wedlock. To this union, were born two daughters, Stephanie and Sharon. Collins spent 22 years in the United States Air Force and Madge was fortunate to be employed as a teacher. She taught all of those 22 years in different states and 4 ½ years employed by the Department of Defense at Yokota American Dependent School, Fussa Mache, Japan. Madge retired from her teaching career as a second grade teacher, at Hamilton Local School District, on July 1, 1993, with 37 consecutive years of service.

In 1969, Madge and Collins joined Macedonia Baptist Church, where they were active members. Madge was a member of the Nurse’s Corp, a Trustee, and spearheaded the annual church fundraiser trip to La Comedia dinner theater, in Springboro, Ohio.

Madge will be remembered for her loving, kind nature, and her willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Madge was a woman of strong faith, who never tired of telling and showing people the love and goodness of God. She nurtured many friendships. A very passionate teacher, who not only wanted to teach, but to inspire and encourage every one of her students. Madge met no strangers and believed everyone should be treated equally.

Our beloved Mother went to join the Lord, on Friday, April 14, 2023, at 7:27 pm, at her residence in Columbus, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander Wesley and Agnes (Hollingsworth) Evans; her only brother, Alex W. Evans Jr., and her husband, Collins A. Marshall.

She leaves to mourn her two daughters, Stephanie Marshall and Sharon (Deland) Sauls; grandsons, Chad (Abigail) Sauls and Brandon (Laura) Sauls; great grandchildren, Iris Sauls, Theodore Sauls, Isaiah Sauls, Elijah Sauls, and Trevor Sauls; nieces, Debra Watkins, Coretta (Lee) Johnson, and Tonya Evans; nephews, Gilbert Watkins, James Johnson, Joseph (Gwen) Evans, Byron (Andresia) Johnson, Everett (Traci) Marshall, Alex Evans, Shon (Cynthia) Evans, Tony Evans, and Mercato (Tracy) Marshall; a host of relatives and many dear friends.
