Mamie Lee Rembert Woods was born to the late Jule and Mary Ann Rembert on January 15, 1927. Although she was the bossiest, she was the second oldest of five children. Mamie gave her life to the Christ at an early age. She was baptized in Cribs Creek on Greensboro Avenue in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and was a very active member of Weeping Mary Missionary Baptist Church. Mamie loved the choir and gospel music and Sunday school. Mamie graduated from Industrial High School in 1947 with an extended residency in medical science. She loved music and sang in the Senior Choir and Chorale and graduated top of her class. Mamie married her sweetheart Ezra Woods on February 22, 1948 at Weeping Mary Missionary Baptist Church. Mamie worked at the Ford Funeral Home in Tuscaloosa Alabama as Ezra fondly known as “Maine” returned from the military. Their daughter Yvonne was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. When Yvonne was two, the young couple moved from Bessemer, Alabama to Columbus, Ohio where their family grew. Andree’, Parker and Rodney were her pride and joy and Maine established a Moving and Trucking Company to take care of his family. “Ms. Woods” as she was fondly known, accepted employment with University Hospital and pursued her degree in Nursing. She worked in the maternity ward in labor and delivery. “Ms. Woods” was an energetic studious worker. She utilized her skill in the mortuary and in critical illness care with terminal patients. She believed in healing and natural medicine and prayer. She practiced natural medicine and natural remedies. Upon her retirement from University, she became a food service worker with Columbus Schools where she gave out free advice and counseled many young people. Ms. Woods has always remained steadfast to her belief in God. She joined Grace Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend A.L. Mason and has been a member for more than 60 years. Ms. Woods was named Sunday School Superintendent in 1962 and served as Director of Christian Education, Vacation Bible School, Church Secretary, Missionary Society and Pastors Aid. Ms. Woods will always be remembered for her ability to talk fast, laugh and give directions all at the same time. She had an affinity for her children that was unmatched until it came to her grand children. She loves gardening, cooking and travel. She was a good friend and neighbor. Ms. Woods awoke early and gave God praise and always did as much as she could do in one day because she said tomorrow is never promised but eternity awaits us all. Her favorite phrase was “put it in God’s hands honey, he will work it out!” Ms. Woods was not ashamed to proclaim the gospel and on her worst days s he would tell you to, “ trust God honey, the good lord knows what he is doing, don’t worry yourself trying to figure it out , when he done all ready worked it out.” We will miss her laugh and her brilliant smile.
