Margaret Fitzgerald was born in Akron, Ohio on May 25, 1920, to the late Mr. Joe Harris and Anna Mae Evans. She had 2 brothers, the late James (Jimmy) Harris and Ansley (Doc) Harris. She attended school in Columbus, Ohio and in Detroit, Michigan. Margaret met and married the late John Fitzgerald Sr. on July 9, 1938, and from this union 4 children were born: John Robert Jr.; Richard Taylor; Denise JoAnn; and Kimberly Jean Toni; and Margaret’s great niece, Kathy (Harris) Bingham joined the family in 1971. A woman of great abiding faith in God, and longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church, Margaret never met a stranger and she would share anything that she had if there was a need. She was “Mom” to so many, not just in Columbus, but across the country and around the World. A two time breast cancer survivor, Margaret approached these challenges with the same grace, dignity and humor she always exhibited. In fact, she was fondly known to the Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Chemo/Radiation wing as the “good will Ambassador”! Each day, she greeted fellow patients awaiting treatment with a heartwarming hello and a “here we are again”! They all looked forward to seeing her and hearing her words of encouragement! Margaret loved travelling and, over the years, she ventured to Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Florida, London, Paris, Mexico, Barbados, Antigua and a memorable Caribbean cruise with John for their 40th wedding anniversary. And, in each of these places, she made lifelong friends and carried the memories of these experiences in her heart. Treasuring memories of her are children John (Jacki) R. Fitzgerald (Jr.), Richard (the late Mary) Fitzgerald, Denise (Ronald) Prater, Kimberly (Loic) Doneche, and Kathy (Arrington) Bingham; grandchildren Michael Fitzgerald, Tina Fitzgerald, Terri Fitzgerald, the late Consuela (GiGi) Shaw, Christopher (Liliana) Boespflug, Aimee (James) Haley, Derrick Link, Ronald Chenault, Shanell, Arrington (Mia) Bingham, Jr., Marlena (Antoine) Clark, Carina Prater, Geremy Doneche, Alexander Bingham, and Aric Bingham; 18 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
