I’d rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God; than dwell in tents of the wicked. The Lord dispatched an angel to bring Margaret Armstrong-Thompson from the field of labor to his eternal home. She departed this life on July 18, 2013. She had labored for her family, church and friends for many years. She was born on September 4, 1922 in Columbus, Ohio from the union of James Coleman and Rosa Belle Lee. She married Manuel Armstrong Sr., early in life. Margaret was employed by General Furniture Corporation for 34 years; followed by 27 years of service with Congregation Tifereth Israel. She accepted Christ into her life at an early age and was an active member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church for many years. She was a member of the Church’s Trustee Board, past President of the Senior Usher Board, member of the Phyllis Wheatley Club, financial secretary for the Steward Board and was overly supportive of the youth at the church. She was also past Vice President of the Mifflin Youth Association, Mini Football League and treasurer of the Thursday Night Bowling Bags League. Later in life she married Lester Thompson. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; James Coleman and Rosa Belle Lee; her sons, Leslie and Eric; daughter, Shirley and husbands, Manuel Armstrong Sr. and Lester Thompson. Those left to cherish her memory, son, Manuel (Beverly) Armstrong; daughter, Stephanie Armstrong and Loretta Watkins; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and many associates. Margaret was very giving and nurturing to everyone she met. She was a testimony to a life well lived and cherished. She was respected and loved by all who knew her. A devoted family member, known to spend quality time with family and friends. A kind person, always willing to do whatever was necessary to help someone in need. To know her was to know fun, laughter and good humor. She was a person who always gave of herself with love.
