Margrett Christine Sims

Margrett C. Sims was born in Clarkdale, Mississippi (Cohoma County) on November 21, 1946. The family later moved to Smith County, where she attended school and finished as a honor student at Turner Chapel High. She won a scholarship to Mississippi Valley State College in basketball. She earned a BS degree in Physical Education in 1970. Margrett moved to Ohio in 1972 from Raleigh, Mississippi. She joined the Mouth Pisgah Baptist Church at an early age. In 1977, she married Lynn F. Morgan. She also attended Xaviar University in Cincinnati, Ohio where she earned a Master of Education Degree. Margrett began teaching in the Columbus Public Schools at Mohawk Junior High; followed by Marion Franklin, Independence, Walnut Ridge High, other elementary schools and most recently at Beatty Park. She was also employed as a physical education teacher and later a guidance counselor. In June, 2012, Margrett retired from education after over 30 years of employment. Margrett gathered a team of volunteers and monthly they would cook, bake and serve men and women at various homeless shelters. With unwavering faith, she fought through numerous controversial situations as well as valiantly battling the illness that eventually claimed her life. In 1985, Margrett joined World Harvest Church; giving her life to the Lord. She followed her calling. Margrett’s faith sustained her during many years of sickness. Eternal healing is inheritance in Christ. Margrett passed away on October 9, 2012. She was preceded in death by her father, George Alton Sims; her mother, May Bell Sims; a sister and brother. She leaves to cherish her memories, four sisters, George Dell Page, of Raleigh, Mississippi, Irma Nowell, of Columbus, Ohio, Emma Sims of Raleigh, Mississippi and Ollie Babikyan, of Marino, California; four nephews; seven nieces, one aunt, one uncle, cousins, other relatives and friends.
