Marshall Grant Jr

Marshall Leland Grant, Jr. was born August 12, 1937 in Columbus, Ohio to the union of Sara Jane Shobe and Marshall Grant, Sr. Marshall was a graduate of East High School, Ohio University, and attended Capital University Law School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. and co-owner of Kum Ba Ya Christian Book Store and Office Supply (1980-2000). For a number of years, Marshall assisted people in finding employment through his employment at the Columbus Urban League. In 1991, he retired from the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission as a training coordinator. His service as the Sunday School Superintendent at New Salem Baptist Church was something he cherished. In 2002, he united with Vineyard Church and eagerly supported it's outreach to the Columbus community as well as immigrants. His love for history inspired him to be involved with the first Poindexter Reunion, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, and to author a book about his family entitled, Roots to Fruit. On June 8, 2017, at the age of 79, Marshall passed away while in his Whitehall residence. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kathy L. Grant, son Marshall III, both parents, and a brother, Robert Douglas Grant. He leaves to cherish his memory, beloved wife of 50 years, Delores Ann Grant; daughters, Charissa Grant and Renita Lee; sister Alice Carole Grant (Joe) Russell; grandchildren, Derrick, Kisha, Schena, Lavida, and Kai Lee; ten great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
