Martha Mae Montgomery

Martha Mae Montgomery, who was affectionately known within her family as "Babysista", was born April 27, 1935 in Bessemer, Alabama. She graduated from Dunbar High School, in Bessemer, and later completed the educational requirements to become a Licensed Practical Nurse at The Ohio State University Medical Center. After 25 years of service, Martha retired from OSU on disability. Over the years, she helped shape the lives of many young people through her work as a childcare provider. In addition to her role as caregiver, she cooked for Mayor Michael Coleman and countless others in the Columbus community who were blessed by the various, tasty meals she offered while operating her well-known catering business, Martha's Kitchen. Martha was a longtime, faithful member of Mt. Period Missionary Baptist Church and was involved with the Livingston Park and Old Oaks Civic Associations. On September 6, 2018, at the age of 83, Martha Mae Montgomery was called home to eternal rest with her Heavenly Father. A host of family preceded her in death, including her daughter Imogene Montgomery, parents, Gerti Lou Pippen and Willie James Pippen, Sr., sisters, Rosemary Smith and Annie Margret Little, and brothers, James "Sonny" Pippen and Willie James Pippen, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Marie (Ralph) Bowers; sister Ruth Love Foreman; brother Nathaniel (Theresa) Pippen; grandsons, Dwand Montgomery, Chance Coleman, and Charles Burton, Jr.; great granddaughters, Kendall Montgomery, Leah Montgomery, and Chloe Coleman; great grandsons, Terryuan Coleman, Cameron Coleman, Chance Coleman, Jr., and Viper Montgomery; as well as many other relatives and friends.
