Mary Carter

Mary Armentha Carter age 91, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 15, 2023. Mary was born in Gilliam, West Virginia on October 17, 1932, to George Baylor Preston and Lizzie Belle Wright. She was a graduate of Elkhorn High School, Elkhorn, West Virginia, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, James A. Carter Sr. She remained married to James until her death 73 years later. Mary was a loving mother to five children; James Jr., Ronnie, Larry, Frank and Anita.

Mary retired from White Westinghouse in Columbus, Ohio, after several years of dedicated service. She was the distinguished First Lady of Lincoln Park Community Baptist Church for 27 years. She was a lifelong member of the Ministers Wives and Ministers Widows Alliance and the President and founder of the Lincoln Park Baptist Church Deaconess Board. Mary was also a devoted member of the Golden Hearts Charitable Club for over 15 years

Mary was an avid reader and an intellectual. She would annually calls friends and family on their birthdays, which she committed to memory.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, George and Lizzie Preston, her sisters, Rosalyn Brown and Connie Williams and her brothers, William and James Preston. She is also preceded by her sons, James Jr. and Ronnie Carter.

Mary is survived by her husband James Sr. Her children, Larry, Frank and Anita. She is also survived by her sisters, Barbara Green and Rosa Robinson and a host of in-laws, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 29th, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, December 30th, 2023 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, with a Funeral Service immediately following all at Lincoln Park Community Baptist Church, 675 E Markison Ave, Columbus , Ohio 43207.
