Mary “Dobbie” McClelland, 90, was born in Forkland, Alabama, on February 1, 1932, to the late George “Buck” Hill and Julia Thompson Hill. She passed peacefully at home on Saturday, February 12, 2022, after a lengthy illness. Mary was a student of the public school system in Forkland, AL. She was baptized at an early age as a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. She moved to Columbus, OH in the early 1950's and also lived in Chicago, IL, and Detroit, MI. Mary and her three children returned to Forkland, AL in 1961 and she moved back to Columbus in 1965. Like many of her generation, Mary was an excellent southern cook who loved cooking for her family and friends. She worked at the Royal Blue Supermarket in East Columbus, where she ran the produce section for several years. Later she worked at Chemical Abstract (janitorial) and the Heritage House in housekeeping for several years before moving back to Forkland, AL in 1981. She kept returning to her birthplace because she loved the simple, rural lifestyle it offered. She returned to Columbus once more in 1996 and remained until her recent death. Mary is preceded in death by her husband Allen McClelland; Infant Son, (Unnamed); Siblings, Amanda Hayes, Roosevelt “Shag” Hendricks, Perry “Sweet” Hill, Barbara Jean Hill, Clara Hill, Fairy Gordon, Darlene Blackmon, Maggie Hardy, Frank Johnson, and Johnny Johnson; maternal grandfather, Henry “Papa” Thompson; step-grandmother, Dinah “Mama” Thompson; and her beloved brother-in-law Jimmy Hayes; special friend T. Winston. Mary is survived by her loving children, Mary Jackson, Diane (Tisa) Barnett, and Allen (Kim) Hill; Grandsons, Tisa Jr. (Yasheka) Barnett, Curtis (Neesha) Barnett, Derek Hill, Sr., Terence (Jeanine) Hines, Sr., Cameron Jones, and Terrance Jackson; Granddaughters, Tekelia (Quen) Blount, Apryl Hollingsworth, Elbony Forte, Whitney Jones, and Stephanie Jackson; Nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings, Nathaniel Hill, Columbus, OH, George (Lucy) Weatherspoon, Cleveland, OH, Josephine (Esmer) Davis, Tuscaloosa, AL, Arbie (Esmer) Thompson, Eutaw, AL, John (Francis) Hill, Eutaw, AL, Jennie (Thomas) Mims, Prattsville, AL, Molly (Bobby) Beverly, Greensboro, AL, Willie B. (Joan) Hill, Tuscaloosa, AL, Charles (Wanda) Hill, Eutaw, AL, and Ross Johnson, Eutaw, AL. Mary also leaves behind several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Special, devoted cousin Susie (John) Jackson.
