Mathews Webster, 79, went home to join the Master on Saturday, July 19, 2014. Mathews was born and raised in Montgomery, AL. He is predeceased by his mother Verneata Carlton Webster, and his father William Webster. He leaves to honor and cherish in his memory, his devoted wife of 56 years, Annie M. Webster; daughters, Annie R. Pender, of Blackshear, GA; Florence M. Jones (Harvey) of Daytona Beach, FL, and Dr. Evie L. Bradley, of Reynoldsburg, OH; sister, Mary Caldwell, of Detroit, MI; brother, Herbert Webster, of Detroit, MI; 8 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren, and 22 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends. Mathews retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1978, having served honorably and proudly after 27 years of military service. He served loyally in both the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. In addition to his military service, he retired from the U. S. Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS). The family wishes to extend gratitude to the Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church family, the First Church of God family, the staff of the VA Ambulatory Care Center, Mt. Carmel East and Specialty Select Regency Hospitals.
