Mattie Rea (Williams) Stanford

September 10, 1936 — November 18, 2014

Mattie Rea (Williams) Stanford, 78, transitioned home to be with our heavenly Father on November 18, 2014. She was born September 10, 1936 in Monroeville, Alabama. As a strong believer in the power of education to improve your life, she moved to Montgomery, Alabama to attend nursing school. Upon completing nursing school, she became a nurse’s aide and served others in need of medical attention at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama, University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio and Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, Michigan. She also met John Stanford, her husband of 53 years in Montgomery, Alabama. She was a devoted Christian serving in the church as a member of the choir, an usher, and a missionary. She also completed the training to become an evangelist. She is preceded in death by her parents, Prince Williams and Bertha Kidd Williams, and her brothers, Prince Melvin Williams and Robert Williams. In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by her children, John (Robin) Stanford, Felecia Stanford, Henry (Leslie) Stanford; three grandchildren; siblings, Emerson Wadelle Williams, Ethel Marie Williams, John Thomas Williams, and Gloria Jean Morris; aunt, Pearlee Hudson; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
