July 29, 1937- December 19, 2021 Mayo Saxton, 90, was born July 29, 1931, in Birmingham, Alabama. Mayo was the oldest of six children born to James and Laura Saxton. He transitioned peacefully on December 19, 2021, surrounded by his family at Riverside Hospital. Mayo was a graduate of Talladega City Schools in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Talladega High School in 1949. Mayo accepted Christ at an early age in Birmingham, Alabama. After migrating to Columbus, Ohio, he became a dedicated member of The Greater 12th Ave. Baptist Church and later The Love Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and parking lot attendant until his health started to decline. Mayo was united in Holy Matrimony to Darlene Spencer in 1982. Mayo was a loyal and dedicated worker. He was employed by the Big Bear Stores Company for 30 years until his retirement in 1994. Mayo was predeceased by his parents James and Laura Saxton, three sisters Sylvia Saxton-Page, Francis Saxton, Maxie Horton, and brother James Saxton. Mayo is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Darlene Saxton; sister, Alice Ealey of Cleveland, Ohio; his three daughters Marisa Mabra of Houston Texas, Cheryl Jackson, and Danielle Spencer; his five sons, Derrick (Aneta) Spencer, Craig Spencer, Terrako (Andrea) Saxton, Keith (Latasha) Saxton, and Corey Steward, all of Columbus, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, Dezare, Andre, Ernesta, Kaiya, Emani, Essence, Akyrah, Olivia, Chaz, Chloe', Isaiah, Talon, Harlem, and Noah. Four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mayo stood for honesty, hard work, and dedication to his family and all who knew him. He was a master of ALL things. He was there for anyone who needed a helping hand. When in need, people would say, "Call Mayo!" His dedication to his children and grandchildren was evident through his presence at their sporting events, recitals, concerts, awards ceremonies, and many other school and extracurricular functions. Mayo's PRESENCE was more important than any present or material thing. Mayo was a very distinguished person. He took pride in his appearance. He was very attentive in coordinating his shirt and tie with his suits and Stacy Adams. He defined spiritual morals, emotional and family skills that defined healthy Manhood. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
