Meyer Isador Stansberry, II, was born September 16, 1928 in Franklin (St. Mary's Parrish), Louisiana to Meyer Isador Stansberry and Lucy Mae Robinson Stansberry. After completing his primary education, Meyer matriculated to Dillard University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Theater. He later enrolled at Central Michigan University, where he completed a Master of Arts degree in Management, Supervision, and Industrial Management. While in his early twenties, Meyer entered the Armed Forces as enlisted personnel at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. Shortly thereafter, he was selected by the United States Air Force to complete Officer Candidate School. His career as a commissioned military officer continued until March 1970, when Meyer Stansberry retired from active duty service at the rank of Major, a position to which he was promoted in 1964. Over the course of his nearly twenty-one years of honorable and dedicated service, Major Stansberry experienced numerous duty locations and fulfilled many assignments including Pilot/Strategic Bomber with the 487th Bomb Squad at Whiteman AFB, Missouri, B-47 Pilot with the 486th and 488th Bomb Squads at Ramey AFB, Puerto Rico and Lockbourne AFB, Ohio and finally as C-130A Aircraft Commander of the 40th Tactical Airlift Squad at Lockbourne AFB. After leaving the Air Force, Meyer continued to exercise his profound work ethic and leadership expertise when he undertook positions at Ohio Bell Telephone Company and The Ohio Department of Transportation. However, he eventually returned to a career with the federal government, this time as a civilian employee with the United States Department of Labor. He retired from the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs where he served as an Equal Opportunity Specialist. Meyer, also known affectionately as “Stan” by his friends and loved ones, remained engaged and active in his local community. He grew up in the church, and from an early age, Meyer was deeply connected to his faith. Through his gift of singing and his exposure to the arts, Meyer came to develop an interest and passion for the theater. After settling in the Columbus area, he united with the congregation of Bethany Baptist Church. Furthermore, Meyer was a longtime member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the Charity Newsies, and the American Legion 430 Bexley Post. Meyer was a lifelong sports enthusiast as was evident in his football participation during his high school and college years, as well as demonstrated in his avid love for the game of golf. On Monday, June 3, 2013, Meyer Isadore Stansberry, II, was called from labor to reward when he passed away at the Mount Carmel East Hospital at the age of 84. In addition to both parents, Meyer was preceded in death by his aunt Courtney Sonier.
