Mildred Bernice Lewis

Mildred Bernice Lewis was born on October 27, 1930 in Urbancrest, Ohio to Jacob and Florence Curtis. She departed this life unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Grant Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. Bernice graduated from Grove City High School and attended the Ohio State University where she was a member of the track team. After many years of employment, she retired from Newark Airforce Base. Bernice married her best friend, Robert E. Lewis, Jr. on August 3, 1957 and from their union they welcomed two sons, Robert E. Lewis, III and Leon Lewis, Sr. She was a lifelong resident of the Brentnell community and she became a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church in 1956. She served as superintendent of Sunday school, deaconess, choir member and in many other capacities within the church. Bernice dedicated her life to helping children and families in her community and church. She gave generously of her time, support and love to all those in need and her incredible faith in God was felt by all who were privileged to know her. Predeceased by parents, Jacob and Florence Curtis; brothers Lloyd and Ralph Curtis; sisters Lucille Thompson, Hazel Watts, Lois Wilson, and Connie Yuill. Bernice leaves to cherish her memory, husband of 58 years, Robert E. Lewis, Jr.; sons Robert E. Lewis, III and Leon Lewis, Sr.; siblings Earnestine Green, Eugene and Gerald Curtis. Grandchildren Shericka (Tyree) Lewis-Spraggins, Robert E. Lewis, IV, Leon Lewis, Jr., Jordon Lewis, and Tania Burton. Great-grandchildren Desiree Rose, Riley Lewis, Omari Foster, and Ta'zion Burton; special daughters, Tracy Manns and Jacqueline Smallwood; great friend, Starlee (Big Mama) Robbins.
