Mildred Louise (Lakes) Copeland

April 28, 1924 — December 4, 2015

Mildred Louise Lakes Copeland was born in 1924 in Hogansville, Georgia. She moved to Columbus in 1944 and immediately united with the Gay Street Baptist Church (now Tabernacle Baptist Church) where she met the love of her life, the late Reverend Herman Copeland. For more than 70 years, she served her church in many capacities including Deaconess, Coordinator of Missions, and President of Rebecca Circle. She was a Life Member and Past President of Church Women United; Past Chair of the Edna L. Lewis Workshop Women’s Auxiliary of the Ohio Baptist General Convention; and, Past Worthy Matron of Ella Chapter #21 Order of the Eastern Star. On December 4, 2015, just 68 days following the passing of her husband of 68 years, the Lord called Mildred from labor to reward. She leaves to walk in her afterglow and to cherish many wonderful memories, her children, Joseph (Deborah) Copeland, Cathy (James) Mock, and Keith Copeland; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Annie Copeland (100 yrs. old); and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
