Nathaniel “Nate” Vernon Taylor died June 7, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio. Survived by his wife Marilyn Taylor, daughter Natalie (William Anthony) Daumeyer Jr. , sister-in-laws Sherrie (Robert) Taylor, Ocie Stephens, Barbara Ann McClondon, brother-in-laws David (Connie) Carr, Richard (Carrie) Carr, James Carr, Marc S. Carr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lizzie Mae and Robert Taylor, Sr., his daughter Krystle Diane Taylor, brother Robert (Bobby)Taylor Jr., and grandmother Susie Mae Carter. Nate was born on September 15, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois and was a graduate of East High School in1968. He received his BA from Central State University,1972. He was a successful business leader and entrepreneur who worked in number of industries: District Supervisor, Columbus Recreation and Parks Department; Real estate broker/appraiser; Co-owner contract cleaning company; Assistant Vice President of Physical Facilities Management at The Ohio State University, 1985-1990; Coach, “All Ohio Black” Basketball team, 1999; Chief, Facilities Management Auxiliary Services Detroit Public Schools, 1999- 2009; Brookhaven Bearcat Booster, 2004; Gahanna Middle School West 7th and 8th grade basketball, 2013-2015 From a young child, Nate was a natural athlete. Swimming, football, and basketball were just a few of the passions he pursued well into adulthood. His home was on the court or field coaching and support youth who benefited from his spirited personality and instruction. Athletics opened doors for him personally and professionally leading to a decades long career in facilities management and coaching. This dedication not only made him a pillar in the local community, but also allowed him to spend valuable time with his daughters Natalie and Krystal after school and work. His family served as the anchor in his life and he found no greater honor than being a father and husband. On the weekends, he could be found hosting one of his famous fish frys or jetting up to Detroit with his wife to catch The Temptations on tour. Nate will be long remembered for his boisterous laugh, gift for storytelling and his dedication to family and friends. Never without a sage word of advice, when hard times and challenges came, he would simply respond with, “Lean forward in the foxhole.”
