Nelson F. Crawley

Nelson F. Crawley was born to the late Fletcher and Lillian Crawley in Newport News, Virginia on October 3, 1934. He received his early education in the public school system of Newport News, Virginia. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He received several awards while serving in the military during the Korean War prior to being honorably discharged. He furthered his education at the Eastern Union Bible College in Columbus, Ohio, an extension of Simmons College in Louisville, Kentucky, earning the Bachelor of Religion. After relocating to Columbus, Ohio, Nelson met the former Sarah Moore of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They married on September 23, 1962. He retired from North American Rockwell after 30 years of service. He was the proud proprietor of Crawley’s Custom Picture Framing and Art Gallery for over 40 years. The Reverend Nelson F. Crawley was an associate minister of Trinity Baptist Church, Columbus, OH serving under the pastorate of the Late Reverend Dr. E. A. Parham and present pastor Dr. Victor M. Davis. At Trinity Rev. Crawley served faithfully in many capacities. For over 35 years he served as Chaplain for the Community Based Correctional Facility and Ministry Leader of the Prison Ministry of the church. He held membership in the Eastern Union Missionary Baptist Association, the Baptist Ministerial Alliance of Columbus and Vicinity, and the Lions Club International. He served in many capacities and received several awards and recognitions throughout the community. At the age of 86 the Rev. Nelson F. Crawley went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 16, 2020. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death is his beloved wife Sarah, brother Bennie and sister, Delma. Nelson will be truly missed by his devoted family, daughter, Carla Norris (Albert Cheek); granddaughter, Sharon (Orville) Lynch; special “grandson”, James Magwood; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Trinity Baptist Church. Beginning at 4 pm, doors will open for a walk-through viewing. For the mutual wellness and respect of those present, all visitors are asked to wear an appropriate face covering, apply an alcohol-based hand sanitizer spray upon entry, and maintain proper distancing according to current public health guidelines. We encourage you to utilize Reverend Crawley's memorial celebration wall to send flowers and post an expression of sympathy and support for the family. A receptacle will also be available for on-site collection of sympathy cards and condolence letters.
