Mr. Oather Jonathan Talley was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 4, 1935 to Gladys Talley and Roy L. Steele. He was the eldest of eight children: six brothers and two sisters. Oather is the father of five children: Cheryl, Michele, Oather II, Yolanda, and Carlton. A life-long resident of Columbus, Oather graduated from West High School. At the age of 21, he enrolled in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force Base in New York. He was an airman second class and had a specialty as an Air Policeman. He attended the Ohio State University, and worked for both the state of Ohio, and the US Postal Service, from which he retired on May 30, 2003. He loved shooting pool, bowling, and listening to jazz. Oather departed this life early Monday morning, January 8, 2018 at Forest Hills Center in Columbus, Ohio. Left to cherish Oather’s memory are his children, Cheryl R. (Robert) Sharp, Michele (Brian) Livingston, Oather J. Talley II, Yolanda Talley, Carlton G. Talley; brother, Earl Head; sister, Pastor Shirley Harrison; three grandchildren, Chantel Talley, Diamond Sharp, and Sterling Sharp; special friends, Emily F. Talley and Bonita L. Finch; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
