Olive Audrey Hooper

February 8, 1936 — May 18, 2011

Olive Audrey Hooper was born February 8, 1936 to Betty Miles Hooper and Ambrose Hooper, Sr. in Youngstown, Ohio. She attended Youngstown Public Schools and graduated from Rayen High School. She accepted Christ as a young adult and was truly a woman after God’s heart. If she had it her way, she would have spent everyday in church, hearing what “thus saith the Lord.” Even though she was unable to attend frequently, she never let that stop her from sharing the Love of Jesus with everyone she met. She devoted her life to raising her four children and to caring for her grandchildren. Audrey, as she was so fondly called, loved learning from others and teaching what she knew. She was known for turning learning into a game. She not only taught her children how to read and write but she also taught her grandchildren. Her grandchildren knew that when she played with them it centered around learning and teaching, and although it was fun, she meant business. Those who knew her spoke of her kind heart. She listened, offered sound, spiritual advice and blessed everyone who sought her wisdom. She had a way of making everyone feel loved by God and herself. But she would not hesitate to tell you when she thought you were wrong. Her never failing words were “keep God in your heart and on your minds.” She was very generous and selfless. She believed that money was to be given away to others. She believed that someday her ship would come in. But she only wanted her ship, so that she could bestow others with her generosity. Sometimes her kids would have to buy her a present instead of giving her monetary gifts, because she would save any money that she received until she reached the amount that she wanted to bestow upon others. Sometimes it would take her a year or more to save up what she promised, but when she got it, she would call them over to pick it up. Audrey, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on May 18, 2011. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Hooper; father, Ambrose Hooper, Sr.; mother, Betty Miles Hooper; sister, Flora Virginia Fawcett; and two brothers, Leo Irving Hooper and Ambrose Hooper, Jr. She leaves behind to cherish her memory a beloved sister, Betty Odessa Manigault of Columbus, OH. Her beautiful spirit will live on in her four beloved children: Betty Hughes (Robert), Columbus, OH; Kathey Majid-Smith, Detroit, MI; Dwain Harrison (LaToya), Chesapeake, VA; Alonzo Harrison, Detroit, MI; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; ten nieces and nephews; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, friends, church members and other loved ones. Her children arise and call her blessed… Proverbs 31:28
