Oliver Wendell Bowman, better known as Wendell gained his wings at the tender age of 92 ½. He was born June 12, 1931 to the parents of Willard George and Gertrude Helen Bowman, of Columbus, Ohio. He was the last of his siblings to pass.
Today marked 67 years married to Eunice Bowman, until her passing on January 27th, 2022 with whom they had four children together; Vickye, whom passed away before him, Donna his devoted caretaker for 14 years; and his sons, Brian and Leonard.
He lived a very independent life until his placement in a nursing facility, Mother Angeline, in April of 2023 when his health started to decline. There he met many new friends.
He is also survived by a host of grandchildren especially Jamila; two great granddaughters; three brothers -in-law; two sisters-in-law; and many friends, especially at the 'Old Man's Club'; cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as their spouses.
He served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He was very proud to be a Veteran and did not mind telling everyone who had a few hours to spare.
Wendell also worked as a construction worker and was in the local 200 Carpenter union for about four to five decades.
He had plenty of hobbies especially his gun collection and his trusty 44 magnum, that he never left home without. He enjoyed going to the country with his friends of Deer Creek Hocking Hills, but he never really hit anything, he just liked being anywhere with his friends.
He took pride in his old pick up truck and his red Hyundai.
Right before his passing, on February 27th, he was presented with a Black History Pioneer Award. At that moment he said he was "ready to go home". Pops, lived his life to the fullest.
