Oneal Mccoy Sr

October 28, 1919 — February 20, 2011

What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others. ~ Pericles Oneal McCoy, Sr., 91, a native of Plaquemine (Point Pleasant), Louisiana, and a resident of Columbus, Ohio, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Plaquemine to Frank and Olevia Lewis McCoy on October 28, 1919. He was educated in the schools of Iberville Parish. At an early age, Oneal was baptized at the Point Pleasant Baptist Church by the late Reverend Abraham Lincoln Davis. He later united with the Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio, where he was a longtime, faithful member. A veteran of the United States Army, he served during the World War II era and was honorably discharged. He was a retired entrepreneur of over sixty-five years. Oneal is predeceased by his wife Florence Taylor McCoy; parents Frank and Olevia Lewis McCoy, siblings, Curtis (Mildred) McCoy, John McCoy, and Mary (Levy) Walker, and a devoted cousin Charley Wright. He leaves to cherish his memory, four sons, Oneal McCoy, Jr. of Detroit, Michigan, Craig, Ivan, and Andre McCoy, all of Columbus, Ohio; two nieces and three nephews who were also a part of the McCoy household, Olevia Tatney-Tucker, Keyina Mitchell, Kelvin Jenkins, Rogers Tatney, and Frank Walker, all of Columbus, Ohio; sister-in-law Mary McCoy of Gretna, Louisiana; other devoted nieces, Olevia Murry of Columbus, Ohio, Rosemary (Ernest) Tatney, Lillian Pierre, Elvie (Thomas) Rooks, Idell (John) Hall, Audrey (Henry) Henderson, Katherine T. Dillion, and Mary L. Jenkins, all of Plaquemine, Louisiana, and Mary A. Johnson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a devoted cousin James (Mildred) Henry of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and dear friends. Homegoing Celebration 10 a.m., Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 428 E. Main Street, where the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the start of service. Rev. Dr. Charles E. Booth, officiating. Interment Northlawn Memory Gardens.
