Ophelia Stevenson Nichols, daughter of the late Tomes Reid and Lillie Mae Stevenson, was born in Cool Springs, NC on April 2, 1923. She departed this life on December 25, 2017. She was a graduate of Morningside High School and a faithful member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church where she served as: President of the Senior Choir, Sunday school teacher, Church Clerk and Secretary of Senior Missions. On May 31, 1941, Ophelia was united in marriage to John Ransom Nichols and to this union six children were born. She was a wonderful wife and mother who loved, and was very much loved, by her family. After the death of her son, Ophelia moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she united with Greater Vision Missionary Baptist church where she faithful and loyally served in the Deaconess and Nurse ministries. Because of her gifts in leadership, helping and wisdom, she was soon appointed to be the "Church Mother" at Greater Vision. There is no doubt that Mrs. Ophelia Nichols will always be remembered for the love she had for her children, family members and friends, as well as her love for the Lord and members of Greater Vision Missionary Baptist Church. She has certainly left a Christian legacy for all to remember. Mother Nichols is preceded in death by: husband John R. Nichols, son John Gilbert Nichols, and granddaughter Desi Reed. Surviving to cherish her memories are son Lonnie Wayne (Bertha) Nichols, daughter's Leona Smith, Patricia Treadwell all of Columbus, OH, Teareathia Grady, Greer, SC, Cynthia Nichols, Statesville, NC. Eight grandchildren: Mark (Tasha) Smith of Laurel, MD, Maurice Treadwell, LaNey Nichols and Lonnie A. Nichols, all of Columbus, OH, David Nichols of Statesville, NC, Maya Grady of Charlotte, NC, Asti ( Shawn) Olgetree of Wynne, AR, Chyna Winston of Salem, NC. Adopted daughter Debbie (Mike) Grider Statesville, NC. Daughter in-law Delores Nichols Statesville, NC. Also, nine great grandchildren Mark Smith and Dorian (Tina) Smith of Chandler, AZ, Malik, Martez, and Markell Nichols, Mhena Lewis of Columbus, OH MaKenize and Shawndell Olgetree of Wynne, AR, Calvin Nichols of Statesville, NC and three great great grandchildren Jaylen, Gideon and Asher Smith all of Chandler, AZ. Two sisters Eleanora Ridley and Mildred Stevenson of Columbus, OH. A host of nephews, nieces and friends whom she loved very much.
