Oveda Mayes

Oveda Little Mayes, age 78, answered the call of God and this chapter of her life with family and friends came to a close at National Church Residences on Monday, August 25, 2014. Mother Mayes a faithful member of New Horizon Christian Fellowship where she was on the Mothers’ Board and an active Prayer Warrior Team member. Oveda was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Smith Bivins and John Bivins; brothers, Benjamin Bivins, O.C. Mark, Johnnie F. Bivins; and sisters, Emma Mae Burgess, Hattie Pridgett, Elnora Owens, and Edwina B. Huewitt (Mom’s twin). She leaves to cherish her memory, loving daughter, Peggy (John) Johnson; two sisters, Rosie Smart and Rosetta Bivins; one brother, Thomas Gaston Bivins, all of Quitman, Georgia; special nieces, Dorothy Burgess, Ocala, Florida; Elouise Moore, Bronx, New York, Henrietta Mayo, Hamden, Connecticut, Sandra Seay, Carrollton, Georgia; special nephew, Gadson Burgess, Jacksonville, Florida; grand god-daughter, Courtney L. Coman, Columbus, Ohio; special grandson, Edward H. Green; sister-in-laws, J. Ruth Brooks, Quitman, Georgia, Rosa M. Bivins, Ocala, Florida and Sherrie (Paul) Mayes, Columbus, Ohio; special daughters, Joyce (Andrew) Brandon, Marionette (Jerome) Hamilton, Valentia (Warren) Coman, Columbus, Ohio and MaryEllen (Howard) Crockett, Frankfort, Germany; special friends, Dorothy Weekly, Columbus, Ohio, Mother M.
