Patricia Fletcher-Smith

September 27, 1948 — October 21, 2023

Patty was born September 27, 1948 in Sharon Pennsylvania, the daughter of Myrtle Samuels (Chambers) and Claude Greene; and was adopted at the age of five by her father, Rufus Chambers Sr. Patty made her transition from this life to eternity on Saturday, October 21, 2023.


Patty’s journey was marked by countless moments of courage and resilience. She was born a part of a loving family that grew to eight siblings. She was able to face adversity with an unwavering resolve, finding the strength to rise above obstacles. Her mother and siblings were not only companions, but also her pillars of support, and together they formed an unbreakable bond. This carried Patty throughout her life.


In 1967 she married Kenneth E. Fletcher Sr. and together they built a beautiful home in Masury Ohio, and had 4 children. Although the marriage dissolved in1986 Patty never allowed that to overshadow her dreams or dampen her spirit. Her unwavering belief in God became a guiding light for her and for those around her. She decided to pursue higher education in1988 attending both Penn State University Shenango Campus and Kent State University, Trumbull campus for Nursing.


Patty poured her heart and soul into every endeavor she pursued. This was made evident in her career. Patty worked in Healthcare, at O’Brien’s Nursing Home in Masury, Ohio where she played a significant role in establishing a union that helped to create a healthy work environment. Following this, she decided to take her incredible ability to encourage people to work in early childhood development by way of Lehigh Valley Child Care in Allentown, PA. She eventually retired from work in Columbus, Ohio working with seniors at AARP Job Services Division in Columbus, Ohio.


A true beacon of love and light, Patty dedicated her life to uplifting others. She used her own experiences as a source of inspiration to encourage others. Patty had an innate ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. She was an active member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Masury, Ohio where she also ministered in various ways, through teaching, singing and community outreach. Patty was officially ordained in 2001 by Fourth United Church of God Bethlehem, PA. She found joy in dedicating herself as a co-pastor of the Church and started the Women of Excellence Ministry. Upon leaving the Allentown area, Patty carried her passion for ministry to Columbus, Ohio joining various churches and supported each ministry through her kind words, compassionate gestures, and encouragement to others to fervently pursue their dreams. She last joined Praise Temple Community Church of Columbus, Ohio.


Patty’s light shined so bright it caught the eyes of Mr. Claude Louis Smith to whom she married on April 9, 2016. Together they shared a passion for uplifting and encouraging people and did so by way of radio. She was trained by her husband on how to host a radio show and was given an opportunity to do so on several occasions with Talktainment Radio - stairway to heaven. Her husband continues this show with her fire for perseverance as inspiration.


Let us continue to remember Patty as a shining example of strength, courage, and perseverance. Her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched, reminding us to embrace life's challenges with unwavering determination and to always encourage others along their own journeys. Although there is grief, we find ourselves rejoicing for a life well lived. She is still now in this moment inspiring us all to persevere and uplift one another.


She is preceded in death by her mother and father Rufus and Myrtle Chambers, biological father Claude Green and previous husband Kenneth E Fletcher Sr. Surviving family includes her loving husband of 7 years Claude Louis Smith, her children Rev. Kenneth E. Fletcher and spouse Tamara Fletcher, Kimberly Capaldo and spouse Christian Capaldo, Richard Fletcher and spouse Joanna Fletcher and Pamela West and spouse Jahlani West. She has 14 Grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by her siblings, Rufus Chambers Jr., Sharon Chambers, Linda Chambers, Vincent Chambers, Vicki Chambers, Donna Chambers, Angela Chambers and Michael Chambers along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
