PATRICIA ANN HOPE was born in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday, October 6, 1946. She was the daughter of Deacon Grady and Maybelle Moore. She was affectionately called “GauGau” and “Patti” by family and friends. Patricia received the Lord into her life, at a young age, at Good Samaritan Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir with her sisters. She received her formal education from Columbus City Schools and was a 1964 graduate of Central High School. She furthered her education at Columbus Technical Institute (CTI), now called Columbus State Community College, where she studied Nursing.
Patricia was a trailblazer. She made history in 1977, by becoming the first female Sanitation Refuge Collector for the City of Columbus. She later advanced her career working with disadvantaged youth as a State of Ohio Youth Leader at the Department of Corrections, now called the Buckeye Boys Ranch. Patricia retired in 2002.
Throughout her entire adult life, Patricia was affectionately loved by many because of her nurturing and compassionate heart. She made it her mission in life to selflessly provide support, guidance, help, and care for all those she encountered. Patricia received prestigious recognition from the highest level of government, during the Bush and Obama administrations, for her outstanding contributions in volunteer services in the State of Ohio.
It was no secret that Patricia loved to cook and bake, in large quantities, for her family and others. Most notably, she was known for crocheting beautiful blankets, hats, and scarfs. Patricia also perfected the art of making elegant ceramic pieces, oil paintings, and portraits. She loved music of various genres, such as Gospel, Classical, Country, Contemporary Gospel, and R&B. She had an enormous collection of record albums that spanned several decades. One of her greatest passions was singing, listening to, and viewing “oldies but goodies” music videos. Patti loved watching Walker Texas Ranger and Gunsmoke. She also enjoyed playing Phase 10, Tony Hawk, and Ms. Pac Man video games.
Patricia was married to the late Robert Victor Walker and the late Clark Joseph Valentine II, the fathers of her six children. She was also married to the late George Carter and the late George Hope.
Our beloved Patricia A. Hope was called home to eternal rest on Tuesday morning, October 11, 2022, five days after her 76th birthday.
