Percy Charles Jones, Sr. was born May 11, 1927 in Birmingham, Alabama. At the age of 92, Percy died August 10, 2019 while at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He worked as a carpenter at Defense Construction Supply Center (DCSC) for 35 years. In his youth, Percy played Negro League baseball (at the age of 14) for the Birmingham Black Barrons and helped coach the Road Runners Women’s Softball team. He enlisted in the United States Army at the age 17 (he told them he was 18) and served four years. Percy loved to fish, play baseball and watch all types of sports on television (mainly his favorite sport—baseball). He also enjoying watching soap operas. The Young & The Restless was his favorite because Victor Newman was his guy. Percy loved his family deeply. He was our father, grandfather and great grandfather. Preceding Percy in death were his parents, Henry and Fannie Jones, son Gary Madison, Sr., sisters Leslie, Myrtle, and Velma, and brothers, Marvin, Sam and George Jones. Percy is survived by his daughter Patricia Griffin; sons, Percy Charles Jr., Randy, and Bryan Jones; daughter-in-law Stephanie; grandchildren, Toyia Shanell, Brittany, Jessica, Seth, Michael, Morgan, Lyssa, Benjamin, Miranda, Johnathan, Jeremiah, Alaina, Sydne and Gary Madison, Jr., Desiree Lewis, and a host of great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
