Phil West Jr., son of the late Willie Mae Adams and Thad Coleman was born in Columbus, Mississippi on April 3, 1929. Our beloved father and devoted grandfather departed this life on February 14, 2012 in the comfort of his home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mamie White West; two daughters, Patricia Ann West and Linda Marie West; three siblings, John Adams, Louise Butler and Lawrence Adams. Phil was educated in the public schools of Columbus, Mississippi. Upon graduating, he entered the United States Army. He served his country with honor as a Warrant Officer for 30 years, serving in the Korean Conflict and The Vietnam War. Upon retirement Phil owned and operated a furniture store in the city of Columbus, OH. Phil married his first love, Mamie White West and to that union there were seven children. Phil was a true military man who had a “can-do” attitude. He was an avid angler who loved the calmness and excitement of fishing. He was a great adventurer who had a fondness for traveling and visiting various resorts and casinos. Daddy, Pops, Papa and Mr. Phil as he was affectionately called will be deeply missed. We cherish his passion of strong family bonds with the African Proverb “Sticks in a Bundle are Unbreakable”. Phil leaves to cherish his memory five children, Gariel (James) Moore of Philadelphia, PA; Julia (Gregory) West Johnson of East Windsor, NJ, Denise (Willie) West White and Dwayne (Lisha) West of Columbus, OH and Michael (Delesia) West of Cincinnati, OH; precious grandchildren Richard Johnson of New Jersey, Jasan Meadows of Virginia, Shurelle Stewart and Kennedy West both of Ohio; adopted grandson, Levi McNair of Ohio; sister in law, Connie Adams of Georgia; faithful siblings, Edward (Clara) Moore of Louisiana; Cora Whitfield of New York; Lonnie (Patricia) Adams of Alabama and loving cousins Annie Lucille Mitchell of Virginia, Booker T. Smith of Ohio, Charles (Ann) West and John West, both of Georgia; Vernon (Carolyn) West of Mississippi and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
