Phillip Gleaves

July 8, 1949 — March 5, 2023

PHILLIP BRUCE GLEAVES was born on Friday, July 8, 1949, in Princeton, Kentucky. He was the son of Eve Gleaves Lee and Anthony Gleaves. He graduated from East High School. Phillip furthered his education at The Ohio State University and Franklin University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree. He later retired from the State of Ohio as a Systems Analyst. Being a jack of all trades, Bruce, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was also a real estate agent and a tax preparer for many years.

Phillip met the love of his life, Linda Wiggins. They married in 1976. Linda suffered from cancer and departed this life on December 26, 1996.

Phillip loved the Lord. He faithfully attended church. He presently was attending Rock of Faith Baptist Church. He served on the Usher Board at New Salem Baptist Church and Friendship Baptist Church. Moreover, he served as First Vice President of the Interdenominational Church Ushers Association of Columbus (ICUA).

Phillip loved collecting African art. He enjoyed watching his favorite team, the Ohio State Buckeyes. He prided himself on his head full of hair and impeccable sense of style. Boy, could he dress to the nines, having a suit in almost every color. His quick-witted nature and cheeky sense of humor were unmatched and will be truly missed.

Phillip was a loving and caring son, brother, father, grandfather, and uncle. He had a heart of gold and didn’t hesitate to help anybody in need. He took care of his dear mother for seven years. As he became less mobile, his beloved nephew, Trevor Gleaves, became their caregiver.

Our beloved Phillip B. Gleaves entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 5, 2023. He was 73 years of age. Phillip was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carrie and John Leach; his loving parents: mother, Eve Gleaves Lee and father, Anthony Gleaves; biological father, Abiyah Edwards Jr.; sister, Carol “Betty” Fowler; uncles, John Rose Leach, Paul Chester Leach, and Adam Leach; aunts, Margie Leach, Elloweze L. Phillips, and Alma M. Bond; and nephew, Mark Gleaves.

In Phillip’s departure, he leaves to mourn his loving daughters, Belinda Broadus (Abbey) and Leticia Williams; granddaughter, Tamara Gordon; grandson, Jaylen Broadus; his brothers, James Lawrence (JoAnn) Gleaves and Allen Tony (Chong Hye) Gleaves; nephews, Trevor Gleaves, James Fowler, Shawn Gleaves, and Austin Gleaves; nieces, Carla Vance, Christina Gleaves, and Elizabeth Gleaves; special friend, Cherice Lemons; a host of other relatives and close friends.
