Ramona Lynn (Harris) Fernett

January 26, 1949 — August 22, 2013

Ramona Lynn Fernett was born January 26, 1949 to Howard and Mary Harris, in Columbus, Ohio. As a child, Ramona enjoyed music, dancing, and performing. She appeared in many ensembles and pageants. As a youth, while attending Eastmoor Junior High School, she received an award from The Ohio Music Education Association for participating in the Solo Competition, as well as several awards throughout the years. Dance was also one of her passions; she was a student of Mrs. Bettye Robinson, where she was proficient in Tap, Ballet, and Jazz. She appeared on a local weekly television show where she showcased her talents. Ramona graduated from Central High School and was employed by the State of Ohio and R.G. Barry, Inc. During her childhood, Ramona accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a member of Caldwell Temple. She later joined Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend James W. Parrish. During this time, she served as a Sunday School Teacher in the Nursery Department. When Rev. Parrish retired, The Reverend Dr. C. Dexter Wise became her pastor. On December 11, 1992, Ramona married the love of her life and her devoted husband of 20 years, Larry Fernett. They built a loving relationship on their mutual love for the Lord. They shared family, friends, and many memories. Ramona and Larry spent many hours reading and reflecting on Bible verses. The Lord was very much a part of their lives. Together, they joined Faith Ministries Church under the leadership of Dr. Wise and she remained a member of that congregation until her passing. Family was very important to Ramona; even during her illness, she never missed the chance to spend time with her grandchildren. She would call or text them to make sure they were doing okay. She would never end the conversation without telling them that she loved them. She would check up on them on Facebook to make sure they were not doing anything inappropriate. Ramona enjoyed her morning coffee and donuts while listening to her jazz music. She also enjoyed taking weekly shopping trips to Wal-Mart, which had become one of her favorite stores. In her younger years, Ramona's favorite store was Lazarus, where she would shop for her favorite Estee Lauder cologne and Flori Roberts cosmetics. She had a green thumb which was evident by her love of flowers and plants. She also enjoyed crocheting and making gifts for her family. She was a Girl Scout Leader for a troop at The Shepard Methodist Church. She loved telling jokes and making people laugh. Ramona had a heart of gold and a beautiful smile, with dimples. She was a true woman of God. On Thursday, August 22, 2013, Ramona departed this life while at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Miriam Kaye Alfred. Those who remain to cherish memories of Ramona include her husband Larry Fernett; son Kip Davis; daughters, Melissa (Larry) Layton and Liza (Thomas) Mitchell; brother Eric Tillman; sisters, Candace (Abou) N’Diaye and Patsy Alston; 15 great grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Dr. David O’Malley and staff, the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital, and Wexner Medical Center MICU, as well as Dr. C. Dexter and Sister Shirley D. Wise, The Women’s Ministry, and the entire Faith Ministries family.
