Randall Ricardo Layne, a beloved husband, grandfather, brother and uncle departed this earth on Monday, October 2, 2023 while hospitalized at Select Specialty Hospital. Randall also known as "Ricky" Layne was born on November 19, 1954 in Columbus, Ohio to Jeanetta Mae (Henderson) Layne and Elmer Thomas Layne. Randall graduated from Linden McKinley High School in Columbus where he was a member of the football team. Upon graduation from high school, Randall enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Germany and was honorably discharged.
Randall was employed by UPS for approximatly forty years. He was a member of the Teamster Union Local 413 where he diligently served as a Union Steward. He was very passionate about his role and responsibilities.
Randall was a member of the East 18th Avenue Prayer and Bible Mission and gave many loving gifts and encouragement. He loved the Lord and often studied the bible and enjoyed discussing religious topics. He was an avid reader and enjoyed sports. His favorite NFL team was the New York Giants and enjoyed buying their apparel and items for his grandchildren.
Randall also had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He loved "spoiling" his grandchildren and great grandchildren with his love, kindness and generousity. They were near and dear to him. Weekend overnighters were a regular event for his grandchildren who enjoyed quality time with their "PawPaw".
Our beloved Randall passed away at the age of 68. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted, loving wife of 20 years Rhonda L. Layne; his siblings, Larry Layne, Victor (Brenda) Layne, Sondra Barbour and Robert Layne. Grieving the loss of their "PawPaw" is Ronnie(Charlotte) Ellis, Gavin Ellis, Brooklynn Ellis and Levi Ellis and two great-grandchildren, Leonardo and Aiyana Ellis. Aunts and Uncles are: Geraldine Gywnn, Mary (Cecil) Price and Georgia (Willie) McClendon, Robert (Linda) Layne, Stafford (Carol) Layne, Faustina Bails and Lady Henderson; nephews and nieces, George B. Barbour, Victor Layne II, Thomas Layne, Bailey Barbour, Shannon Barbour and Vincent Layne, great-niece and nephew, Kami and Theon Layne; and a host of beloved relatives, friends and church members.
Randall was preceded in death by parents, Elmer T. and Jeanetta M. Layne, siblings Wanda L. and John W. Layne; grandfathers William H. Layne and John E. Henderson; grandmothers Josephine Justice Layne and Ida Padget Henderson.
