Raynette Marie (Sample) Cornish

Raynette Marie Cornish (Sample) was born July 26, 1970, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Francisca Figueroa and Herman Sample. Raynette passed away unexpectedly in her sleep May 3, 2018 at her residence. She attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from Columbus Alternative High School in 1988. Raynette was the first born of four children who she made sure knew she was in charge! Raynette married Larry Cornish who was a devoted husband and a loving father to their three beautiful children. Raynette and Larry’s love for their family was unimpeachable! They demonstrated what true love looks like! Raynette’s passion in life was to work with and care for all children who crossed her path who affectionately called her “Ima”, “Auntie”, “Nettie”, “Honey” and “Coach Raynette”! She was state certified as an in-home childcare provider and home school teacher. She operated a not-for-profit organization, “Mystiq Jewels,” a competitive cheerleading power house, which encourages, inspires and empowers children to be their best! Raynette was also a coach for Columbus City Schools where she served as not just a coach, but a mentor to both young men and women. Her goal was to teach them that their dreams were legitimate, and they could reach them through hard work and discipline. We will miss her beautiful smile, hearty laughter, huge hugs, and her nurturing and inspirational words of encouragement. She had the roar of a lion, but the heart of an angel. Raynette was preceded in death by her beloved son Kwesi Sample, grandparents Giles and Martha Sample, and grandfather Francisco Figueroa. She leaves to cherish her memory, Larry, a loving husband of 22 years; daughter Amira Cornish; son Akil Cornish; extended family daughter Amber Flowers; mother Francisca Figueroa; father Herman Sample; sisters, Veronica Cannon and Cicely "Coco" Davis; brother Niiodarte Figueroa-Jackson; grandmother Wilma Figueroa (Padgett); aunt Sherry Watkins; uncles John Figueroa and David Figueroa; mother-in-law Phyllis Johnson; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
