Reginald Eugene Wainwright, left this life to be with the Lord on January 14. 2025. Reginald was born on September 2, 1955, in Hamilton, Bermuda. Reggie attended Prospect Primary and Ord Road elementary schools where he excelled in sports. He loved to play cricket and held the position of wicket keeper. As a child in Bermuda, Reggie loved to swim, dice off the rocks, fish, and soccer. Reggie was raised in the United Holy Church, and was a member of the choir and the usher department.
Reggie visited his grandmother, Agnes Stovell in Columbus, Ohio at the age of 12, at which time she decided to keep him and enrolled him in school. Reggie graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1972. Reggie received his certification in HVAC from the American HVAC Institute. In 2022, Reggie retired from the National Church Residence, Gahanna as the HVAC/Maintenance Supervisor.
Reggie loved life to the fullest. Dancing, music, family, friends, attending concerts and of course looking sharp! Reggie loved to play basketball on weekends and watching his favorite sports teams.
He was the uncle that all the nieces and nephews gravitated to. The Brother that took care of everyone, and the son any mother would be proud of. A loving Father to Rashida Coles and Grandfather to Aniyah Maddox. As the nieces and nephews thrived in high school sports, he was known to purchase their gear for football and track. He was always present at their games and track meets. He never missed an opportunity to encourage them. Always committed to his family, and often times their personal handyman. Whenever Reggie would visit Bermuda, he would borrow his sister Paullete's motorcycle and visit with everyone. Reggie leaves to cherish his memory his significant other Sharon Majors, who was by his side until the end. Daughter Rashida Coles, Granddaughter Aniya Maddox, Mother Shirley Ratteray, Sisters Paullete (Arthur) Simons, Shona Nicol, Brother In Law Virgil Rhea, Aunt June Watkins, Leola Stovell and Janice Stovell, Special Nephew Shawn Wainwright. Niece Shevone Green, Bonus son Justin Majors, Bonus Daughters Tanisha Niel, Sharaletta Mitchell and Kiara Banks, Bonus Grandson Maverick Harris, Godson Aiden Moore, Special Cousin John Marshall, Special Friends Darrell Hunter, Michael Hunter, and Barrya Coleman and many nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends whom he cherished.
During his illness, Reggie rededicated his life to the Lord. Reginald Wainwright was proceeded in death by his father, Reginald Wainwright, grandmother, Agnes Stovell, brother, Keith Wainwright, sister, Suzete Wainwright- Rhea, step-father, Charles "Unks" Ratteray, brother in-law, Cyril Nicol Sr.
Friends will be received for Visitation at Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Service at 1370 E. Main Street, Columbus, OH on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm. Services will be held at Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Service at 12:00 pm on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025 followed immediately by his interment at Eastlawn Cemetery.
