Rev. Nelson Stanley Washington

NELSON STANLEY WASHINGTON was born August 4, 1951 in Huntington, West Virginia to Nelson Leroy Washington and Gladys Dobey Washington. Nelson graduated from Huntington High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1975 from Marshall University, where he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He pursued his graduate studies in Healthcare Administration at Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts (1997, 1998, 2000); Master in the Science of Administration from Central Michigan University (2000); Master of Theological Studies (2006) and Master of Divinity (2008), both from the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio. He served as a Chaplain Intern at MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield, Ohio and Chaplain Resident at the Department of Veteran Affairs in Dayton, Ohio. At the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio, he was licensed to Ministry in 2005 and ordained to Ministry in 2008. Nelson was a long time member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where he served faithfully in numerous capacities, including Associate Minister, member of the Deacon Board, Vice Chairman of the Trustee Board, Chairperson of the Renovation Committee, Assistant Church Parliamentarian, Treasurer of the Shiloh Baptist Church Layman Auxiliary, Secretary of the Ohio Baptist General Convention Layman Organization, and instructor at the Eastern Union Bible College. Early on Tuesday morning, September 8, 2014, he was called from his labor to reward. Nelson's parents preceded him death. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Deborah; daughters, Tamara Davis and Nakira Hopkins; grandchildren, Jalen Hopkins, Christian Johnson, Jeremiah Hopkins, Soneya Hopkins; sister, Scheherazade Washington (Thomas) Childs of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother, Gerry Lee Washington; nephew, Aaron Washington-Childs of Cincinnati; aunts, Joan Washington (Rita Barksdale) and Mary Collins; uncle, Clyde Dobey, Jr.; parents-in-law, Fred and Dorothy Davis; sisters-in-law, Kim Perry and Lethedia Wynn; and a host of family and friends. Nelson leaves a legacy of devoted husband, wonderful father and papa to his grandchildren, loving brother to his siblings, mentor to many, and a magnificent Bible Study Teacher and Preacher.
