Richard Allen Alston was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 27, 1929 to the late Ralph Waldo Alston and Bessie Scorpio Alston Welch. Richard passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at his residence.
He was educated in the Public Schools, attended West High School where he played the trumpet in the school band. He played in a few groups throughout the city. He served in the United States Army, Korean War.
Richard was united in marriage to Mary A. Diggs in November 1952. They had two daughters, Deborah A. Alston Outlaw and Linda A. Alston Winston. Their endearing and enduring marriage lasted over seventy years.
Richard retired from the post office after working there for over 30 years. Richard enjoyed all kinds of music, taking pictures and loved fishing. Richard was kind and had a generous heart and was always willing to help someone. He also had a great sense of humor. Richard truly loved his family and enjoyed traveling with them. He called his wife Mary “Queen “ and his two daughters “Daddy’s girl”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ida Mae, Charles, Waldo, and Katherine; and nephew Charles (Butch).
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary, daughters, Deborah and Linda, nieces Delores Grant , Charlene Taylor and other family members and friends.
