In, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 29, 1941, Richard Eugene Hopson was born to Richard Curtis Hopson and Bessie Victoria Thomas. He was raised Pittsburgh, PA and eventually moved with his family to Ohio. He graduated from Central High School in 1959.
He joined the United States Air Force and served his country from June 1964 to January 1967; upon being honorably discharged he worked for Timken Roller Bearing Company in Columbus, Ohio.
He later served the City of Columbus as a Police Officer with the Columbus Division of Police from February 1968 until retirement, May 1995. He also served as a Vehicle Impound Inspector with the City of Columbus from June 1997 until April 2010.
He passed this life on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at his home in Gahanna, Ohio. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Richard C. Hopson; mother, Bessie V. (Thomas)Hopson; Wife, Sue (Norris) Hopson; son, Todd Hopson; brother, Steven Curtis Hopson; sisters, Julianne Smith, Elizabeth Harris and Tamara Hopson.,
He is survived by sons, Tim Hopson, Tom Hopson, Troy (Tomeka) Hopson, Tony Hopson, Richard Hopson; grandchildren: Alicia Hopkins, Kandyce Robinson, Keairra Carmichael, Tim Jr. Hopson, Thomas Hopson, Aaron Hopson, Kristen Hopson, Paris Millner, Christopher Hopson, Troy Hopson Jr., Trenton Hopson, Nikki Jay Hopson, Allison Hopson, Tony Hopson, Samuel Hopson and Lillian Hopson.
He is also survived by a host of beloved great-grandchildren, other relatives, friends and special friend, Martha McKinnon.
