Robert Joel Powell

Robert Joel Powell was born on Friday April 10th, 1942 in Sylacauga, Alabama to Joel and Arqulia Powell. He was raised in Cleveland, Ohio and attended East Technical High School. As a child, Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of New Covenant Believers Church for many years. Robert joined the Navy in 1961 and completed basic training at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. He served as a Navy medic for the Marine Corps during his enlistment. After his service in the military, he became an entrepreneur and owned his own construction company , Robglo, Inc., with his wife, for 30 yrs. Robert received multiple honors and awards during his lifetime including DCSC Minority Contractor of the year. He was respected by his employees and received acknowledgements from them as an outstanding CEO. Robert married the love of his life, Gloria on September 11, 1965. To their union was born three daughters: Leslie Elizabeth, Valerie Arqulia and Stephanie Leigh. Robert described Gloria as his true soul mate and best friend. Robert was a history buff and enjoyed cooking, gardening, golfing and advising his children and grandchildren! On Sunday, July 19, 2020, Robert transitioned from this life to be in the presence of the Lord. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Stepfather and two sisters. He leaves to celebrate and continue his rich legacy his loving wife of 54 years, Gloria. Three daughters: Leslie Meyers (Bryan), Valerie Johnson (Jeffrey), and Stephanie Harris (Tony). Seven grandchildren: Loren, Robert, Alexandrea, Cameron, Madison, Connor and Chase. One Brother, Howard Powell, sister- in- law, Alyce Powell and a host of loving family members and devoted friends. Beyond The Sunset Beyond the sunset, O blissful morning, when with our Savior heaven is begun. Earth’s toiling ended, O glorious dawning, beyond the sunset, when day is done. Beyond the sunset no clouds will gather, no storms will threaten, no fears annoy; O day of gladness, O day unending, beyond the sunset, eternal joy! Beyond the sunset a hand will guide me to God, the Father, whom I adore, His glorious presence, His words of welcome, will be my portion on that fair shore. Beyond the sunset, o glad reunion, with our dear loved ones who’ve gone before. In that fair homeland we’ll know no parting, beyond the sunset forever more! Written by Virgil P.
