Robert Thornhill Jr

October 3, 1957 — March 10, 2014

Robert Marvin Thornhill, Jr., affectionately known to all who loved and cherished him as “Scoot”, was born to the late Edith and Robert Marvin Thornhill, Sr. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 3, 1957. Scoot lost his last battle with cancer in this life and went on home to be with the Lord for Eternity on March 10, 2014. As a teen and growing into adulthood, Scoot was no stranger to being mischievous; testing and living life his way and according to his terms. God had a great plan for Scoot and would use his life and journey as a vessel to light the path for those who once traveled the same dark path. Scoot’s greatest accomplishment has been maintaining sobriety for 8 years. This sobriety was the catalyst for his determination and motivation to inspire, encourage and uplift others to seek and maintain sobriety and spiritual healing. He was a true man of God with a heart of gold who made himself available to anyone especially those who needed guidance while battling addiction. Scoot further served as a resource and support in the capacity of an NA/AA Sponsor. In 2009, Scoot received an Associates Degree in Chemical Dependency from Columbus State Community College and is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor II in the states of Ohio and Florida. Brother Rob, as he was known by his clients and co-workers, fulfilled his passion and purpose as a Chemical Dependency Counselor through Columbus Area, Inc. at The Bell Center, a therapeutic community utilizing Africentric principles in Columbus, Ohio. Scoot was full of God, full of God’s Word and lived to serve God’s Purpose. He totally surrendered and submitted himself and his life to God and allowed God to use him to complete Missionary work. Scoot received spiritual fulfillment when he traveled to places as far St. Thomas and Belize with the Catholic Heart WorkCamp Organization, to show the love of God that was instilled in him by building homes and rehabilitating churches for individuals living in destitute conditions. Scoot’s hobbies and pastimes included football and Harley Davidson’s. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and maintained his faithful rivalry with the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals and Ohio State University Buckeyes. Scoot found refuge and recharged from life’s duties and responsibilities by riding his Harley and chilling out with his brothers from the Zulus Biker Club. He completed two “Nomad” runs and was scheduled for a third this year. All he ever wanted to do was “ride”. His last wish was to ride his Harley along the Gulf Coast of Florida. Scoot was preceded in death by; his father, Robert (Big Bob) Marvin Thornhill, Sr.; and mother, Edith Thornhill. Scoot’s memory will be cherished and his legacy carried on by; his wife, Sylvia Howard, Daughters; DeShay Berry-Boxley, Valerie Anderson (Delan), Rashanda Thornhill and Ronita Oxley; Bonus Mother, Karen Thornhill; Brother, Keith (Twizzy) Thornhill; Ten Grandchildren; Aunt Rosa Mae Tarbot who stepped into his mother’s shoes when she passed; Zulu Brothers and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends and loved ones.
