Roger Jr. Jr Garrett

Roger Garrett, Jr., known to family as “Sonny”, was born August 1, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio, to Roger Garrett, Sr. and Pauline Marie Garrett. Roger graduated from Franklin University in December of 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Industrial Management. He served in the United States Air Force from March 1, 1968 to April 13, 1972. While in the Air Force, Roger received The Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. After honorable discharge, he returned to Columbus, Ohio. On October 26, 1974, he married Pamela Jean Harris. His professional management career spread across the full spectrum of the business world ranging from Public to Private sector including The State of Ohio, General Electric and Rockwell International. Later, he worked for Lazarus Northland Department Store and lastly, retired from The Ohio State University. Roger was a true perennial student; a history buff at heart, he would lecture at length on various periods of World History. Roger also loved laughing, telling jokes and reminiscing about family times. Most important, he loved spending time with his beloved grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Sarah A. Louise-Garrett, sister Doris Marie Guynes, mother-in-law Viola Ruth Harris and brother-in-law William E. Grant Jr. Roger Garrett is survived by his wife Pamela Jean; three children, Roger Garrett III, Tia Renee (Tasmin) Goodlett, and Alicia Jean Garrett; two grandchildren Mia Ruth and Terrance DeShawn Goodlett; sister Wynona Bernice Slaughter (Reginald Teamer); brother Charles E. Garrett; father-in-law Jasper C. Harris; sisters-in-law Sonya Grant and Betty (Phillip) Peaks; and a host of other loving family members and dear friends. Celebration of Life Service 4 p.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 639 E. Long Street, where the family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until the start of service.
