Roger M. Tidwell

Roger Mofford Tidwell was born on April 27, 1941 in Columbus, Ohio. The second oldest of five sons born to Eugene and Viola Wikle Tidwell, he was raised in Poindexter Village during his early childhood. Later, the family moved to the Hilltop area where they resided on Wheatland Avenue. As a child, Roger and his family would attend Sunday school and church services at The Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith when it was located on the corner of Washington and Donaldson Avenues. He was educated in the Columbus Public Schools and graduated from West High School. Roger served his country in the United States Army and retired from General Motors after 30 years of employment. Roger was an avid sports fan and he enjoyed watching all types of sporting events on television. He had a love for drag racing, fast cars, and also enjoyed various activities such as spending time at the horse racing track. Two of his favorite foods were ham and oyster dressing. If you ever spent any length of time talking with Roger, you know he would usually reminisce about “the good ole’ days”. He truly will be missed. On Tuesday, November 14, 2017, Roger Mofford Tidwell departed this life at Mt. Carmel East Hospital after his battle with cancer. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his brother, Donald W. Tidwell. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted brothers, Howard Tidwell, Karl (Darnell) Tidwell, and Kenneth (Debbie) Tidwell; aunt Betty Stephenson of Denver, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Nancy Tidwell and Theresa Tidwell; longtime friends, Carl Brown, Jr., Harvey Harris, Leon Newman, Earl “Buddy” Rose, Shelley Smith, and Aaron “Squeaky” Thornton; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
