Ronald Macy Roberts, age 83, a lifelong resident of Columbus, Ohio, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Mt. Carmel West Hospital. As a teenager, Ronald rode his bicycle all around the city while working as a delivery boy for The Columbus Dispatch and selling ice cream for Freckers. On September 18, 1948, he enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 20. For his honorable service, he received several decorations and was discharged at the rank of Sergeant on December 29, 1954. He continued serving his country as a Petty Officer with the United States Naval Reserves, from which he eventually retired. In 1955, Ronald was hired on with the United States Postal Service as a clerk during the Christmas season. During the winter of 1956, he became a permanent employee and retired in 1989. Before working at the post office, he worked as a truck driver for the City of Columbus. Ronald was baptized at the Oakley Baptist Church, where he also served as Scout Master for the Boy Scout Troop. He was also a member of the NAACP and the American Legion. Ronald was predeceased by his parents Austin M. Roberts and Florence Mowery-Roberts, and his siblings, Gloria Roberts-Brandon, Betty Roberts-Jones (Warren), Edna Roberts-Morgan (Nathaniel), and infant brother Austin Roberts, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Frances Noldon-Roberts; children, Carol Roberts-Majid, Valerie L. Roberts, and Kenneth L. Roberts; grandchildren, Stephanie Simmons-Giles, Aaron C. Allen, and Jasmine C. Allen; one great grandson, special niece Florine Jones-Hunter (Robert); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Homegoing Service 10 a.m., Friday, June 17, 2011 in the chapel of DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long Street, where the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the start of service. Pastor Chris Green, Wayne Avenue Church of God, officiating. Interment Green Lawn Cemetery.
