Roosevelt Lard

October 3, 1939 — February 9, 2022

On October 3, 1939 the youngest of ten, Roosevelt Lard Sr. was born to the late Zake Loyd and Mamie Parker in York, Alabama. He matriculated through the public school system of Tuscaloosa Alabama, graduating from Druid High School in May of 1959. Rawhide, the name by which he was affectionately referred to by his friends and family, had a thirst for knowledge and adventure. This led him to enlist in the U.S. Army in June of 1959. During his time of service, Roosevelt received many decorations, medals, badges, commendations and citations. These included, sharpshooter (rifle), parachutist badge, second class gunner, and mechanic. After his time of service, which included fighting in the Vietnam War, Roosevelt moved to Columbus, Ohio where he met and wed the late Minnie Pearl Loyd. To this union, four children were born. During his time on earth, he was affiliated with the international Masons as a member of Brotherly Love Lodge No. 3, Motorcycle Club, and numerous other organizations. Roosevelt retired from Anheuser-Busch and then went into business for himself, which included owning a mechanics garage and an arcade. Roosevelt went home to glory on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. He is proceeded in death by siblings Arthur Brown, AC Halsell, Jack Parker, Lucille Hayden, Dally Parker, Alice Parker, Johnny Parker, and sister Marylee. He leaves to mourn his passing; sons, Roosevelt Loyd Jr, Arthur B. (Valerie) Lard of Portsmouth Ohio and Lorenzo Loyd; Daughters Tanya Bell (Tuscaloosa, Alabama), Christie Lard (Antonio) Caffey; Grandchildren, Roosevelt lll, Christopher, Marelle, Alexus, Miana, Elijah, Christian, Lorenzo Jr, Kyndall, Nyesha, Jeffecia, Ja’kirria. In addition, he will be missed by his sister Earlene Richards of Chicago, IL and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends from across the country.
