Rosa Mae Williams

June 6, 1920 — May 5, 2013

Sister Rosa Mae Williams was born on June 6, 1920 in Hawkinsville, Wilcox County, Georgia to the late Elijah and Beatrice Haliburton Shivers. She had six siblings. Four brothers and two sisters: Tony, Elijah, Amos, Colin, Violet and Beatrice. Her four brothers and sister Violet Rayford preceded her in death. Mrs. Williams was married to the late Sam Williams. To this union five children were born Hattie, Samuel, Everene, McArthur and Louise. Her sons McArthur and Samuel preceded her in death. She became a Christian at an early age. Upon relocating to Columbus, Ohio she and her family joined Triedstone Baptist Church where her brother, the late Rev. Elijah Shivers was the Pastor. Later she and her family joined Shiloh Baptist Church where she served for many years as a devoted and faithful member and also a member of Sunday School Class No.5. Mrs. Williams was a quiet spirit who had a way of making each of her children feel special. She was a good example - she set the tone for strong Christian values early within her children and grand children lives. Mrs. Williams hosted many prayer and bible study meetings in her home with her family, neighbors and friends. Along with several of her friends she would visit nursing homes and the sick and shut-ins; and continued servant-hood in these capacities until failing health. Rosa was an incredible cook, and her friends, neighbors, and church members look forward to stopping by her home for a meal, luscious deserts and her melt-in-your-mouth homemade rolls. Additionally, she had a green thumb and her flower garden was admired by people that passed by her home on Linwood Avenue. She grew vegetables and would can and freeze them and share with her neighbors. Mrs. Williams took care of many children in her home for parents that worked and they all loved and called her Grandma. At the age of 92, God's final call to come home was received on Sunday, May 5, 2013, 4:25 a.m., at Country View of Sunbury, Sunbury OH. She is preceded in death by husband Sam; sons, McArthur and Samuel; granddaughter, Karen King; great-grand daughter, Tania Martin. Rosa's memories will forever be cherished by her loving and devoted children, Hattie (ST) King, Everene (Donald) Rutledge and Louise Dixson; sister, Beatrice Marshall; grandchildren, David Dixson, Lisa Turner and Tina Dixson; Several great ¬great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
