Rose Marie Gore, age 87 peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 27, 2021. She was born September 14, 1934, in Altoona, PA. She was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church for over 46 years. Rose was a graduate of Altoona High School and Zeth Business College, she was an education enthusiast. She began her career with the Columbus Police Department as a Secretary to Chief Harvey Alston and retired from the Defense Construction Supply Center (DCSC) with 30 years of service in the office of Civilian Personnel as an Employee Development Specialist. Rose was a kind and generous person. Her doors were always open, she had a particular soft spot for children and was deeply appreciated by all. Rose loved hard, she was a quiet force, blessing many with her handwritten notes of encouragement and her random slipping of "pocket" money. She knew how to make everyone feel special. Rose was strong in her own way. She was rooted in her faith. Rose was a survivor of breast cancer only later to give everything she could to not let ovarian cancer rob her of joy. Rose lived a full life. She enjoyed traveling and camping with family and friends. She truly enjoyed all outdoor activities and watched football and basketball on TV. She was a charter member of the Columbus Camper Club and the National African American RV Association. Rose was affiliated with many social and service organizations: The Columbus Chapter of Continentals, Inc., The Columbus Chapter of Epicureans, Inc., Mannequin Club, Staccatos Club, and her monthly Birthday Brunch Club. Rose was preceded in death by her parents: Granville and Cecil Willis; husband: John L. Gore; sisters: Virginia (James) Dannals, Sarah (James) Collins, and Catherine (Yohannas) Squires. Rose will continue to be cherished by her daughter: Karen (David) Scott; son: John (Judith) Gore; grandchildren: Johnel (Bernardo) Amerson, Janee Dunlap, Nichole (Howard) Bates, Eric (Regina) Wood, Tina (Aaron) Thomas, Jamie (Latricia) Wood, the Hayden Family, several great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family including but not limited to nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and dear friends. Special thanks to her Second Baptist Church Family for the support over all of the years and to Zusman Hospice Team and Taylor Springs Health Campus for allowing her final chapter to be filled with dignity. Rose will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Rose’s memory to the John and Rose Gore Book Scholarship; Alpha Rho Lambda Education Foundation: 175 S. 3rd Street, Columbus, OH 43215, Paypal: Arlednfdn@gmail.com or Cashapp: $ARLFoundation.
