Roy Daniel Bryson, Sr. was born February 18, 1951 to Henry and Mary Lela Bryson in Sylva, North Carolina, where he spent his early years and later moved with his family to Columbus, Ohio. Roy was a 1969 graduate of Linden McKinley High School in Columbus and also attended junior college in Florida, where he played on the basketball team. In 1975, he married Monzetta Perkins and from that union Roy D. Bryson, Jr. (Manny) was born. Roy enjoyed and had many years of service working for Sears, Eddie Bauer and Abbott Laboratories, of which he retired. Roy was his happiest when he was spending time with family, especially sister-cousins, Edith, Donna and Karetta and long-time family friends, Al and Gloria Zebbs. His family remembers him as a constant jokester and wearing many hats: Dad, Grandpa, chauffeur, Coca-Cola lover, avid bowler, San Francisco 49ers fanatic, Waffle House connoisseur, Samurai sword expert, women’s sports enthusiast and of course, the beloved UNCLE ROY to many. He left a smile on the faces of everyone he met and made life-long friends in all of his favorite places. Roy is preceded in death by his father, Henry Bryson; mother, Mary Lela Bryson; brother, Vaughn (Vicki) Bryson, Sr. and niece, Angela (Stewart) Chamberlain. He is survived by sons, Roy D. (Emily) Bryson, Jr. and Bruno (Shalanda) Perkins; daughters, Monica (JD) Clary and Betty Perkins; brothers, Charles Bryson, Sr., Kenny (Ida) Bryson, John (Helen) Bryson; sister, Frances Alberta Stewart of Los Angeles; grandchildren, Juliana, Mikaela, Dominique, Donneatta, Xavier, Kiana, Preveil; and special relatives, Andrea Stewart, Cameo Stewart, Camara (Brett) Scott and Cameron Coleman.
