RUTH ANN GIBBS was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 19, 1933, to George and Wyoma Cardwell. She was the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Central High School and attended Franklin University for one year. At a Catholic high school dance Ruth Ann met the love of her life, Jack Gibbs. They were married on March 27, 1953. Ruth was an exceptional wife and mother, working behind the scenes with her beloved Jack and nurturing her two children. During her life she was involved with her children's schools, led her daughter Cheryl's Blue Bird Troop, managed Columbus City Pool concessions, ran a senior summer program project with her husband, and in 1980 she was a child care attendant for Columbus Public Schools handicapped students. God and religion were the center of Ruth's life. Ruth loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a powerhouse prayer warrior. She ministered and interceded for so many others. Ruth Ann was a dedicated student of the Bible, reading and studying it daily. God's love shined brightly through her life. She was dedicated and passionate about leading others to Christ. Her life was a testimony. Ruth was a lifelong active member of Centenary United Methodist Church: choir member, Sunday school teacher, and leader for bible study and vacation bible school. She financially supported many civic and Christian organizations including: Daystar, Feed the Children, LIFE Outreach, Mid-Ohio Food Bank, and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. She loved animals and fed the birds daily. Her beloved dog, Precious was her dear companion for 17 years. Ruth Ann was devoted to her family and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed her weekly Sunday rides and outings with her devoted son, Jack. With her sweet, sweet spirit she instilled a great legacy of faith. Ruth taught her family to trust the Lord with all their heart and that prayer works. All the grandchildren had a special bond with their "Gram." At the age of 88, faithful servant of the Lord, Ruth Ann Gibbs, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, George Dewey Cardwell and Wyoma Hightower Cardwell; beloved husband, Jack G. Gibbs; sisters, Mary Cardwell Westcott; Janet Cardwell McCray; Louise Cardwell Clark; brothers, Lester Cardwell (Evelyn); Robert Cardwell; William Cardwell; great-granddaughter, Aviana Parker; and daughter-in-law, Aloma Gibbs. Ruth Ann leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Jack Gibbs, Jr.; daughter, Cheryl Gibbs Parker (Augustus, III); grandchildren, Jack Gibbs, III; Anna Gibbs; Augustus Parker, IV (LaToya); Jason Parker (Eloisa); Krista Parker (Willie); great-granddaughters, Naveia Parker; Kailyn Parker; great-grandsons, Deshawn Walden; Lorenzo Parker; sister-in-law, Louise Williams (Roger); and a host of other cousins, family members and beloved friends. Celebration of Life will be Saturday, January 22, at 10:00 am. Due to the pandemic and for health and safety reasons, a private immediate family only service will be held at Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Home, 720 East Long St., Columbus, Ohio 43203.
