Samuel Bowman Henry passed away on July 9, 2023.
Samuel was born on May 19, 1945 in Jackson County, and he graduated from Marion Franklin High School in 1964. During his time at high school, he was involved in the jazz and marching band, playing the alto saxophone. After graduation, he worked in various factories, including Westinghouse, Buckeye Steel, and Columbus Auto Parts. He eventually retired from Columbus Public Schools as the Head Custodian at Wedgewood Middle School. Samuel was a devout Christian who accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was an active member of World Harvest Church, where he served as an usher. He formerly served as a Sunday School teacher at Church of Christ of Apostolic Faith. He devotedly volunteered his time to coaching youth football and was a paper ballot captain for the Franklin County Board of Elections. A passionate photographer, he was also known for his love of family road trips, spending Christmas at Disney World, traveling, and cheering on the OSU football team and Cleveland Guardians baseball team.
Samuel was preceded in death by his devoted wife Cecelia H. Henry; his father, Jay A. Henry; his mother, Marion L. Henry; and his brother, Dee Jay Henry.
Samuel is survived by his daughters, Peggy (Michael) Holley, Penny K. (Mark) Henry-Handy, Dr. Patty K. Henry, Polly K. (Darrell) Glenn, Pammy K. (Jabrell) Maye, Prixxy K. (James) Taylor, Pannsy K. (Joel) Brown; sons, Samuel B. Henry Jr., Jay L. Henry, and Lawrence A. Henry; brother, Brian Lee Henry; 25 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends.
