Sandra Dean Bunnell

March 29, 1940 — February 20, 2016

SANDRA DEAN BUNNELL (BUSEY), age 75, of Columbus, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on 2/20/16. She was born in Uniontown, PA, (Fayette County) to the late Ralph and Viola Busey. She attended grade school at Fair Avenue Elementary in Uniontown, PA; and as a child, attended Church of God in Christ in Pennsylvania; as a teen she went to several high schools: East High, Central High, then later attended Starling High School where she pursued her Diploma; and within two months shy of completing her senior year, she suddenly had a heart attack, which stopped her from receiving her Diploma; but that didn’t stop her from succeeding in life and obtaining employment; Sandra later moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she landed her first job with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles as a Typist/ Clerk for 2 years, and the Columbus Airport as a Food Prep, who prepared food for the Airlines for 1 year. She later directed her career within the Healthcare field, and became a Nurse Aide at Worthington Convalescent Center assisting the Nurses, as well as, Parkwood Nursing Home for 5 years. In the latter years, she spent her time caring for Patients at Bixby Learning Skill Center (an MRDD Affiliate), where Catholic Services had sent her. Sandra enjoyed caring for others, and it was a part of her nature to see others gain independence. Sandra gave her life to Christ and accepted Him as her Lord and Savior in her youth; at this time, she was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor, Rev. Doctor Doughty. She was a faithful member of Mt. Hermon, and was the President of the Nurses there, as a State Nurse, in affiliate with the Eastern Union Nurses Corp for 2 years, but overall she served as a Nurse within this organization up to 13 years. Let me share with you the history of the Nurses Corps: NURSE Corps gives nurses nationwide the opportunity to turn their passion for service into a lifelong career; and it is a program that is part of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services within Health Resources and Services Administration. The U.S. Army Nurse Corps (ANC) was established in 1901 as a permanent corps within the U.S. Army Medical Department; and because of the efforts of Dr. Anita Newcomb McGee and advocates for a professional nursing element within the U.S. Army, legislation was included into Section 19 of the Army Reorganization Act and passed by the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate with some modification on February 2, 1901. Prior to the formal and legal recognition of nurses within the Army Medical Department, individuals had been providing care to sick and wounded soldiers as early as 1775. Sandra Dean Bunnell did not serve in the Army, but she served as a Nurse for 13 years. Also, Sandra served in the Regular and Senior Choir; then after attending Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, she later attended Soul City House of God with her late husband Rev. Clifton Bunnell, as the church Secretary, with the late Pastor Lampkin; and Lincoln Park Baptist Church, utilized her gift as a Church Nurse, who trained youth in Nursing; and there she was a member of the Mt. Calvary Nurse Association for 21 years. Sandra definitely loved serving in the Lord’s house. Over Sandra’s lifetime, she served in other churches around Columbus, OH and recently attended Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ located on 1466 Atcheson Street, Columbus, OH 43203 under the leadership of Elder, Pastor Nehemiah Joann Howard. Sandra’s favorite scripture: St. John chapter 14: 1-4. Sandra Dean Bunnell is preceded in death by her husband Rev. Clifton Bunnell; and she is survived by her son Ronards Lewis Woods, and her loving grandchildren: late Cameron Woods, and surviving grandchildren: Katherine Tabler, Tyrone Tabler, Lil’ Ronards “Woodsy”, and Marcus Tabler; great-grandchildren, Ronards Tabler Jr., Karter Tabler, Tae-Juan Franklin, Faith Tabler, Sincere and Journey; her late sister: Betty June Womack including a host of other family and friends.
